MOON by Simaudio presents the MOON 491 Network Player / Preamplifier and the MOON 461 Power Amplifier, two new components designed to expand the Compass Collection into a separate-component system.
Following the launch of the MOON 371 Network Player / Amplifier, the 491 and 461 offer a new path for listeners who want to go further in the MOON universe. Together, they bring a more flexible, more scalable and more ambitious approach to Compass high-fidelity.
The MOON 491 acts as the control centre of the system. It brings together network playback, preamplification, digital-to-analog conversion, phono playback and headphone amplification in one refined component, designed to manage digital and analog sources with precision, stability and clarity.
At the heart of the 491 is MiND 2, MOON’s proprietary streaming platform. It enables network playback, access to major music services, and compatibility with Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and Roon.
The 491 also integrates MOON Hybrid Power, a proprietary power supply architecture designed to deliver stable, low-noise energy to sensitive audio circuits. Its digital-to-analog conversion section uses two ESS 9039Q2M DACs in a dual-mono configuration, supporting precise, stable and detailed playback.
For vinyl enthusiasts, the 491 includes a configurable phono stage compatible with both MM and MC cartridges. Impedance, capacitance, gain and equalization curves can be adjusted to match different cartridge types.
The MOON 461 brings dedicated power amplification to the Compass Collection. Designed for precision, control and dynamic authority, it is the natural partner to the 491 in a separate-component system.
The 461 uses MDCA, MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier, a proprietary amplification technology designed to reduce distortion, improve linearity and preserve the integrity of the musical signal. It also integrates two MOON Hybrid Power modules, one per channel, to deliver stable, quiet and high-current power.
The MOON 461 delivers 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 300 watts per channel into 4 ohms and 450 watts in bridged mono mode into 8 ohms. With stereo, bridged mono and mono bi-amping modes, it adapts to different system configurations and a wide range of loudspeakers.
Together, the MOON 491 and 461 create a new separate-component path within the Compass Collection. The 491 manages sources, control and signal refinement. The 461 brings the power, stability and authority needed to let the system fully express the music.
Like all MOON products, the 491 and 461 are designed and hand-assembled in Boucherville, Québec, Canada, and backed by a 10-year warranty.
