Thomas has been an Mechanical Assembler at Simaudio.

What’s your role?
I have three main roles: CNC machinist, electronic assembly, and deburring, which means working on metallic contours. You could say I’m a bit of a Swiss Army knife. I work all over the place, sometimes even helping with shipping. I put my hands wherever they’re needed.

Your favorite MOON product?
Any product that’s open and right in front of me. I love looking at the boards and circuits, they look like miniature architectures. I enjoy soldering on them, it feels like building something in miniature. Who would think we make high-fidelity sound just by looking at our workshops?

A memorable moment?
I really enjoy the team spirit, the cohesion, the patience and the support from colleagues. The fact that everyone does a bit of everything is quite unique in a company. It’s a series of days, a series of good memories. One memorable moment was the Audio 101 training with Dominique Poupart. He made us listen to a few pieces, including a Beethoven symphony, in the Louis Lemire listening room. I had chills. To be able to experience something like that at work, closing your eyes and diving into the music… it was incredible.

What makes you proud?
Working in a high-end industry, in the field of music, is something special. It touches me deeply because at heart, I’m a musician. To go from instruments – where I’ve always been a jack of all trades – to the machines that build products allowing us to hear with such precision, I feel lucky. I’ve always loved listening to music, and now working in a place where we make some of the best quality audio in the world, hearing it when we test and adjust the products before shipping, it feels like a privilege.

A favorite album?
There are so many! If I had to name two, it would be Comedown Machine by The Strokes and Immutable – The Indelible Edition by Meshuggah. This remastered edition is perfection. It’s a very particular kind of metal, heavy, rhythmically and technically rich. Everything is in there. The rhythms overlap, creating a real trance by the end. For me, they’re the best in their field.
